Anglican charity makes name U-turn

Back in 2012, the mission agency moved away from its long standing name of USPG (United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel) to move into a new era of its work.

However a number of supporters were unhappy at the face the word 'gospel' had been removed.

The new name will slightly change from the previous version with USPG standing for United Society Partners in the Gospel.

Chief Executive Janette O'Neill said: "We make this move cheerfully, more confident for the years spent as Us.

"The concept behind the name Us helped us look more deeply into mutual and interdependent partnership and the ways we are bound together by God's love.

"We move forward now with renewed emphasis on sharing the lived experience of our partners."

The change in name was announced ahead of the Greenbelt festival in which the charity will act as the event's lead agency and will encourage Christians to respond to the refugee crisis in Europe.

In a world of fake news there’s never been a greater need for quality Christian journalism. Premier’s mission is to provide the Church with the most up to date and relevant news, told from a Christian perspective. But we can’t do it without you.

Unlike many websites we haven't put up a paywall — we want to keep our journalism free at the point of need and as open as we can. For a monthly gift of $11 or more we’d also be able to send you a free copy of the brand new Premier Bible, a wonderful Anglicised version of the NLT packed with exclusive bonus content, reading plan and resources to help you get the most out of scripture.

Your monthly support will make a world of difference. Thank you.
