Archbishop takes to streets to help party goers

Most Revd Justin Welby went out with City Pastors to see first-hand the work the organisation does.

He's on a four-day visit to churches and communities in the Diocese of Birmingham.

Before joining the pastors on Broad Street the archbishop visited a church-run winter night shelter.

Elsewhere he will preach at Birmingham Cathedral, and pray with local business and civic leaders. He will also visit several schools to meet with students and teachers.

During his trip the archbishop will bake with Great British Bake-Off quarter finalist Martha Collison.

Archbishop Justin is also due to give a keynote address at an inter-faith conference on tackling poverty, and also deliver a lecture on geopolitics.

He said: "I'm really excited about visiting Birmingham. There is so much to celebrate in the life of the region and in the life of the local church. During this visit I am really looking forward to seeing what God is doing with and through the many different people in many different ways."

In a world of fake news there’s never been a greater need for quality Christian journalism. Premier’s mission is to provide the Church with the most up to date and relevant news, told from a Christian perspective. But we can’t do it without you.

Unlike many websites we haven't put up a paywall — we want to keep our journalism free at the point of need and as open as we can. Premier’s news output takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. No one in the USA is sharing news like we are across radio, magazines and online so please help us to continue that today.

For a monthly gift of $11 or more we’d also be able to send you a free copy of the brand new Premier Bible, a wonderful Anglicised version of the NLT packed with exclusive bonus content, reading plan and resources to help you get the most out of scripture.

Your monthly support will make a world of difference. Thank you.
