Banished cathedral bell ringer loses High Court case

The man, who's not been identified, was banished by clergy in the wake of allegations that he had "behaved inappropriately" with children.

He claimed their actions were unjustified and in breach of his human right to respect for private and family life.

As a result he took legal action against church bosses including the Bishop of Worcester, the Rt Revd Dr John Inge (pictured).

Mr Justice Coulson at the hearing in Birmingham threw out the case suggesting barring him from ringing the cathedral bells had been a "proportionate" sanction despite the fact there was "no question of any criminal conduct".

The judge explained that cathedral officials had taken specialist advice from Worcester County Council before taking action despite the claimant's suggestions that they had been biased and the outcome "predetermined".
