Christian football manager Jurgen Klopp takes over at Liverpool

In a short statement on Twitter the club said: "Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce Jurgen Klopp has been appointed as the club's new manager.

"The German coach has signed a deal to take the helm at the Reds and will be presented at a press conference at Anfield on Friday morning."

The 48 year old has achieved huge success in his homeland leading the club Borussia Dortmund top two league titles and a Champions League final.

He replaces Brendan Rodgers who was sacked after Liverpool's draw with rivals Everton on Sunday.

While Klopp is regarded as one of the best coaches in Europe, his faith is something he's open to talking about.

"To be a believer, but not to want to talk about it - I do not know how it would work! If anyone asks me about my faith, I give information. Not because I have claim to be any sort of missionary. But when I look at me and my life - and I take time for that every day - then I feel I am in sensationally good hands."

Speaking to British press for the first time on Friday, he said: "I am a normal guy from the Black Forest. I don't compare myself with these genius managers from the past.

"Not one of these great managers said in his first press conference 'my target is I want to be a legend at the end of my time here'.

"This is a great club because of many good decisions in the past, good players, brilliant players, now we have to work in the present."
