Christian writer warns mainstream gender ideas are a 'universal acid'

Writing for the lobby group, Christian Concern, Jonathan Saunders said approaches, such as encouraging children to embrace whichever gender they identify which most, "ignore scientific studies".

He said: "He [God] made us 'male and female' and this is a significant part of what it means to be made in his image. We cannot expect to reject God and keep his world intact.

"In seeking to remove every trace of him, we must remove 'male and female' altogether. Not just from individuals but from all aspects of life.

"We cannot expect gender ideology to remain a private matter. It is a universal acid. It affects everything it touches."

Jonathan Saunders was reacting to the documentary 'Transgender Kids: Who Knows Best?' broadcast by the BBC on Thursday night which explored the stories of several families in Canada affected by gender confusion.

He warns gender ideology is "all-pervasive", infiltrating the spheres of medicine, politics, law, language, science, education and family.

The writer asks: "Why is it so all-pervasive? Isn't this just about people's personal and private lives? And why are activists ignoring so much scientific evidence and so quickly overhauling medical practice and historic legislation?

Jonathan Saunders referred to a new book published before Christmas, 'Can I Tell You About Gender Diversity?' which encourages school children not to use the terms 'boy' or 'girl', so students identifying as transgender don't feel excluded.

The writer also said moving away from referring to the issue a 'Gender Identity Disorder' to 'Gender Dysphoria' "has the effect of changing the focus from a disorder in the mind (so fix the mind) to a disorder in the body (so fix the body)."

He added: "We like to think that we are rational people, that we think before we act and that all we do is based on empirical evidence. In our minds, rational enquiry is the first filter we put on anything."

Referring to the 'Can I Tell You About Gender Diversity?' book, a Department for Education spokesperson said: "We are committed to ensuring that everyone is given the same opportunity to succeed – schools should be inclusive environments where every child feels supported to fulfil their full potential."
