Christians celebrated in New Year Honours List

by Aaron James

Among those is the former Bishop of Liverpool, Rt Rev James Jones (above), who's being given a KBE for his campaigning work on behalf of the Hillsborough disaster families.

He told the BBC: "I got to know the families very well during the Hillsborough Independent Panel process. And over the years I've come to understand something of their pain.

"I think the families have shown extraordinary forbearance over the years as they have struggled to get people just to listen to them.

"So, in receiving this honour, I also salute their forbearance."

Crispin Truman (below, top) the Chief Executive of the Churches Conservation Trust, is receiving an OBE along with Rev Janet Mullis, who's contributed to further education and the community in York, and Stuart Cornwell, a member of Stockton Tabernacle Baptist Church who's worked with vulnerable children and women in the UK and abroad.

Speaking to Premier Stuart Cornwell, 69, said: "The greatest award I have is to know the Lord Jesus Christ and to know that I have eternal life.

"That supercedes any of this, although this is still exciting and meaningful.

"The important thing for me was to not retire, but to continue to serve the Lord in whichever way I could, and that goes on."
