Church funeral for Belfast bomb victim

by Aaron James

Mourners will remember 52-year-old Adrian Ismay at Woodvale Methodist Church in the north of the city.

At the same time a public vigil will be held for the married father-of-three outside Belfast City Hall.

Northern Ireland First Minister Arlene Foster will attend the funeral, along with several other British and Irish government ministers.

Adrian Ismay sustained serious leg injuries when a device blew up underneath his van on Hillsborough Drive (below) on his way to work at Hydebank Wood Young Offenders on March 4th.

He survived and was released from hospital, but died unexpectedly last Tuesday when a blood clot triggered a heart attack.

A dissident republican group calling itself the New IRA, which opposes the Northern Ireland peace process, claimed to have carried out the attack.

A 45-year-old man from west Belfast has been remanded in custody charged with the murder.
