Speaking on the News Hour, Jonathan Clark, the Director of Premier Life said churches can do a lot more to help those thinking about ending their own lives.
"Some [Churches] have gone out of their way to become more aware but others probably really don't think it's going to affect them," Clark said, "I think we all need to be very aware that suicide can affect anyone."
Clark's comments come on the same day that MPs called for GPs to be better trained in spotting suicide risk - saying the current rates are "unacceptable".
The Health Committee has released its interim report into tackling the number of people taking their own life.
In England the number of people ending their own lives has been steadily rising, and remains the biggest killer of men under 50.
The report also found that one in three suicide victims were in contact with their GP before taking their own life but did not receive the support they needed.
Clark said: "A lot of people go to the GP because they feel they are a safe place to go and they'll go because they feel in trouble. They won't necessarily say they're thinking about suicide... the key thing the GP needs to do is learn to ask the right questions."
