Community service for vicar who assaulted wife

by Desmond Busteed

Torquay Magistrates' Court heard Revd David Davies, 50, was two and a half times over the drink drive limit when he grabbed his wife's hair and pulled her to the ground after getting drunk while walking their dog in November 2014.

The former Army chaplain has also been banned from driving for the next two years,

An internal investigation is now underway into Revd Davies future as the parish priest of Cockington and Torre in Torquay.

Speaking to the BBC, Clive Cohen, acting archdeacon of Totnes, said: "David had a long career as an army chaplain, serving in some very challenging situations, before he came to Devon in 2013.

"We pray for healing for David and his family, and for his parishes.

"Now the court case has concluded, the diocese will conduct its own internal process, which will include looking at David's future ministry."

In a world of fake news there’s never been a greater need for quality Christian journalism. Premier’s mission is to provide the Church with the most up to date and relevant news, told from a Christian perspective. But we can’t do it without you.

Unlike many websites we haven't put up a paywall — we want to keep our journalism free at the point of need and as open as we can. For a monthly gift of $11 or more we’d also be able to send you a free copy of the brand new Premier Bible, a wonderful Anglicised version of the NLT packed with exclusive bonus content, reading plan and resources to help you get the most out of scripture.

Your monthly support will make a world of difference. Thank you.
