Former England football star John Barnes has been helping out at a Salvation Army initiative reaching out to young homeless men and women.
Forty teams from the charity's residential centres have been competeing in a national football tournament in Manchester.
The annual event which includes teams from as far afield as Glasgow, Cardiff and Skegness looks to give competitors a sense of purpose.
Organisers want to pass on the message that 'homeless is not who I am'.
Speaking about his keeness to get involved, John Barnes, who won 79 caps for England, said: "You look at the plight of the people who the Salvation Army help.
"For no fault of their own they find themselves in unfortunate situations. There's a bit of a stigma attached to it.
"The mantra of in terms of 'homelessness is not who I am it's what I am', I belive in that 100%"
