Free Church of Scotland at Fringe Festival

by Hannah Tooley

Buccleuch Free Church has organised 'Fringe@Buccleuch', a special programme consisting of plays, street theatre, concerts from Christian musicians and children's shows.

Different artists from around the world will be performing their own original pieces ranging from drama to music.

Organisers hope 'Fringe@Buccleuch' will be an opportunity to show Christian perspectives on life to those who ordinarily would not attend church or be involved in Christian organisations.

Alex MacDonald, a member of one of the bands performing, told Premier's News Hour:"It's a tremendous opportunity of course. There's tens of thousands of people in Edinburgh, and it seemed a shame not to be doing something.

"We're very fortunate to be cooperating with New Scottish Arts, the SOLAS Centre for Public Christianity, and also Teilo University in the [United] States.

"The main play that's being put on is 'God Smuggler', remembering the fact that this is the sixtieth anniversary of Open Doors, founded by Brother Andrew, and of course he was famous for smuggling bibles into Communist countries.

"I think it's tremendously important that we show that the Christian faith has got a viewpoint on all kinds of issues of life, and help people see the relevance of the Gospel to their own lives."
