Jesus 'would have loved Terry Wogan'

Fr Brian D'Arcy visited the atheist presenter just days before his death.

Wogan died at the age of 77 last week following a 'short, but brave' battle with cancer.

Speaking on Sunday's Songs of Praise Fr D'Arcy will fuel speculation Sir Terry returned to his Catholic faith after turning his back on the religion at the age of 17.

Asked if Wogan was closer to God than he let people believer the priest said: "It is difficult to answer that question because I'm not God.

"But in my judgement he was closer to God than he realised. And God of the Bible and Jesus of the Bible would have loved Terry Wogan."

On whether he thought the broadcaster was in heaven Fr D'Arcy said: "If he's not, I don't want to be there because I'd like to be where he is because that's where goodness is."
