Missing Kayleigh's family 'numb' says church leader after body discovery

by Hannah Tooley

Police looking for the 15-year-old, who has not been seen since 6pm on Friday November 13th, when she was dropped off outside Ibstock Community College in Central Avenue, say they found a body.

Revd Roy Monks, minister of Ibstock Baptist Church, said: "Whilst we hoped against hope that this was not the news we would be receiving today, a body had been found which was likely to be Kayleigh's body.

"The community is devastated, we are all devastated, but we are determined that we want to stand with Kayleigh and her family at this very, very difficult time.

"Sadly, today a young girl is not going home with her family and the family are absolutely beside themselves and the community equally is a grieving community.

"She was a bright, bubbly girl, a typical teenager. A very bubbly, nice young girl. I'm sure she brought sunshine into the lives of all who knew her."

Police have removed a body from undergrowth in a Leicestershire park which is believed to be that of missing teenager Kayleigh Haywood.

Officers said formal identification is yet to take place, but they believe it is the missing teenager.

The Archdeacon of Loughburgh, Venerable David Newman, told Premier's News Hour that Christians need to focus on how to respond helpfully: "I think that particularly when it comes close to home everybody feels this very strongly, I think in some ways particularly with this even in Leicestershire it's hard to ask the 'why' question at this point, as the news is only just breaking.

"And the 'why' question only gets us so far at any time, I think Christians have always tried to focus on the 'how' question at this point - how can I respond helpfully, how can I support those who've been most affected, how can we bring some good out of this terrible situation."

He said that Christians can overcome evil with good.

Two men, aged 27 and 28, who were arrested in the early hours of Monday morning on suspicion of kidnap and who were yesterday rearrested on suspicion of murder, remain in police custody.
An application was granted by magistrates this morning to hold them for a further and final 24 hours.

A vigil will be held at St Laurence's Church in Measham at 6pm.
