Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby will lead the House of Lords in a debate on women bishops later.
The Women in the Episcopate bill will be discussed by peers before moving on to the House of Commons for final approval.
Church of England Synod members voted in favour of allowing female clergy to become bishops at the meeting in July, but the move still has to be passed by Parliament.
It is unlikely that either House will vote against the proposal.
Bishop of Truro, Rt Rev Tim Thornton, told Premier it seemed a "bit odd" that the Church had made the decision, which was now being discussed by Parliament.
He said: "I'm looking forward with some anticipation. The debate has been had. It isn't, in a sense for the House of Lords to spend too long about it."
It is not clear when final approval could be given, although the Synod is due to meet again on 17th November to formally declare that women can be bishops.
