Rachel Turner of St Paul's in Hammersmith in London was speaking after the Archbishop of York encouraged people to have a 'phone fast' on December 25th to better engage with others around them.
She said: "I think it's really important actually because so often we feel disconnected from each other because we're looking at our phones.
"And on a day that's designed for family, giving one another face-to-face time is the most important thing you can do."
She admits that controlling it will be difficult so the whole family would have to agree beforehand, adding: "You feel like as families you need to compete with what's on offer on a phone and you can never be more entertaining than what's on the phone, it serves as a real disconnection separating the generations."
