The Prince of Wales and the Archbishop of Canterbury have sent the retiring Bishop of London off in style at a private banquet at Lambeth Palace.
Prince Charles attended the dinner for Rt Rev Richard Chartres and his wife Caroline last night with Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.
Most Rev Justin Welby hosted the evening at his central London residence with his wife Caroline.
The banquet was commemorating the outgoing Bishop of London's retirement after 22 years of ministry.
During that time, there has been a significant amount of growth for the Church of England in London, bucking a national trend where attendances have been decreasing, particularly in rural parts of the country.
Rt Rev Richard Chartres successor is expected to be announced within the year.
