Prince George receives huge blessing ahead of his Christening

Prince George received a king-sized christening card today signed by 5,000 Premier Christian Radio listeners.

The giant mint green coloured card featured the message: "Praying God's Richest Blessings on your Christening Day" and inside is a prayer written by Revd Tony Miles from Methodist Central Hall.

It was hand delivered to St James's Palace this morning by the station's Chief Executive Peter Kerridge.

He told Premier's Marcus Jones during the News Hour why he thinks so many Christians added their signatures.

Meanwhile, the Archbishop of Canterbury has spoken of what he calls the "hugely important" baptism of Prince George, which takes place tomorrow at St James's Palace.

The Most Revd Justin Welby, who will perform the christening at the Chapel Royal, says he hopes that others will be inspired to seek the same ceremony for themselves and their children.

He's released a short YouTube video message ahead of the big day in which he explains the significance of baptism and why it is such an important moment for anyone, whoever they are.

He says that baptism is not just for royal babies but is offered to everyone, because 'God's love is offered without qualification, without price, without cost, to all people, in all circumstances, always.'

Archbishop Welby also says that when Prince George is baptised he will join two billion people around the world in 'the family of the church'.

The Church of England says it conducts over 2,500 christenings every week of the year and its spokesman Revd Arun Arora Premier's News Hour what he hopes tomorrow's ceremony will prove.

Prince George will be baptised tomorrow at 3pm in an intimate private ceremony attended by family and friends.

The official christening photographs will be taken by portrait photographer Jason Bell and those taken after the ceremony will show the Queen with three future monarchs - the Prince of Wales, William and George.

The Royal Mint is to create a set of commemorative coins to mark the occasion which features the Lily Font from the Tower of London, two harp-playing cherubs and the royal motto ''Dieu et mon droit'' (God and my right).

The prayer written inside the christening card by Revd Tony Miles:

God of Life, we rejoice in the gift of a son to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. We give thanks that by bringing their child to be christened they have responded to Your love and to the grace of Your only Son, Jesus Christ.

We pray for William and Catherine as they love and care for George Alexander Louis. Help and equip them as parents, especially as they make solemn promises before You to nurture their son in the Christian faith.

May the public nature of their lives and responsibilities not hinder them in being a good example through their words, prayers, and deeds.

King of Kings, strengthen this family by Your Holy Spirit, that they may use the privileges, opportunities, and challenges that come with their national roles, for the good of all and as a witness to Your Light.

We pray through Jesus Christ our Lord, and for the sake of Your kingdom of love and peace.

Amen
