Review into Church home after drugs claims

The inquiry into Kendall House in Gravesend, Kent, will look at events between 1950 and 1986 when it's claimed some were forced to take massive doses of medication.

The Bishop of Rochester, Rt Revd James Langstaff, said the review would focus on the "management and systems" at Kendall House.

In 2009 a BBC investigation found that the home, for 'emotionally-disturbed girls', was heavily sedating some of the young people it cared for.

It's alleged that some went on to have children with birth defects.

The Church of England paid substantial damages to one former resident in 2010 but did not admit liability.

Teresa Cooper left the home in 1984 and went on to have three children with defects.

In a statement Bishop James said: "It is my hope that this review will be of help in pastoral and other ways to all those who have concerns about Kendall House, and will also make clear any outstanding lessons which the Church of England and others need to learn."

Anyone who has information for the review should email [email protected].
