Dr Williams, now a Master at Magdalene College, apparently took part in stopping a Cambridge University drinking society from holding a competition where women wrestle one another.
It was reported that he put pressure on the society, named the Wyverns, after complaints from female students about the "misogynistic" and "exclusive" drinking clubs, according to The Mail on Sunday.
In 2013 1,000 students signed a petition accusing the organisers of 'jelly-wrestling' competitions of being sexist.
According to The Mail, a college source said: "(The pressure) came from the Master and the fellows from the college.
"It's frowned upon that we get a bad name because of this drinking society.
"It's to do with the reputation of the college and how we're perceived.
"It's bad - girls jelly-wrestling for the fun of the boys.
"It's terrible."
The Mail said the former Archbishop was not available for comment.
Both Cambridge and Oxford have launched a campaign called 'No Exclusive and Sexist Societies.'
It asks that the institutions undertake disciplinary action on any student taking part in these societies.
