The media only shows religious extremism, says Catholic broadcaster

by Hannah Tooley

Adrian Chiles said that: "Jesus said, 'The meek will inherit the earth.'

"Well, they might do but they get no press coverage along the way at all, they're completely forgotten."

He added: "And I'm not just talking about Christians, I'm all about [all religions]."

The broadcaster, best known for his football presenting, hosts a new religious series travelling around the Mediterranean, beginning on BBC2 on Tuesday.

At the beginning of the filming he begins by saying: "On my journey around the Mediterranean I want to show that religion actually does more good than harm.

"I won't be seeking out the religious zealots - they get quite enough airtime if you ask me.

"I just want to find the majority; the nice, normal, gentle people that happen to be religious."

The previous Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, had a meeting with the BBC director general in 2009 to complain about the coporations alleged neglect of its Christian audience, according to The Independent.
