Vicar and daughter re-bailed in baby murder probe

by Antony Bushfield

Detectives said Revd Jim Percival, 65, from Holy Trinity CE Church in Freckleton, Lancashire (pictured), and his daughter Ruth, 28, would be freed until January 11 next year pending further inquiries.

The pair were initially arrested last December after the suspicious death of a baby boy.

Police detained the pair after they were called to an address in Freckleton, believed to be the vicarage, shortly before 6pm on November 25, following a report that a woman had given birth to a stillborn baby.

Despite a post-mortem examination the cause of the baby boy's death is still unknown but officers say following "numerous inquiries" the death was being treated as suspicious.

The Diocese of Blackburn has been offering pastoral support to the Freckleton community since the arrests.
