Dawn French will reprise her role as 'Vicar of Dibley' on March 13, two years on from another one off special.
The BBC's confirmed work is ongoing for the show. A spokesman said: "I can confirm there's going to be a Dibley sketch for Red Nose Day on Friday, March 13, but I can't confirm anything further or provide any more detail at this stage."
The plot is currently being kept under wraps but the announcement comes just weeks after the Church of England appointed its first female bishop.
Revd Libby Lane will become the Bishop of Stockport later this year.
According to the Daily Mail, the Church's move to ordain women to the senior roles will play a big role. The newspaper quotes a source close to the production: "Geraldine's character assumes she is a shoo-in to become the Bishop of Dibley but the joke is that there are some other very unexpected names in the frame.
"Some big names have been cast as the rivals but to name them would give away the joke."
The Vicar of Dibley first aired in 1994 soon after the Church first ordained women priests.
It's won numerous awards and in 2004 came third in 'Britain's Best Sitcom'.
