Welsh vicar misses out on Britain's Got Talent title

Revd Canon Robert Townsend is a member of Côr Glanaethwy and was beaten by Jules O'Dwyer and her dog Matisse.

The Area Dean of Arfon in the Diocese of Bangor is also joined in the 165-strong choir by his wife, Kath, and daughter, Gwen.

At the choir's first audition they sang 'Benedictus' from Karl Jenkins' Mass of the Armed Man.

Their final performance was described as "completely magical" by judge David Walliams who joked he was "so proud to be a quarter Welsh".

Speaking to Premier's Inspirational Breakfast Revd Canon Robert Townsend said it had been a fantastic night.

"The tension is more of a worry beforehand but just performing was an extremely emotional experience.

"I was actually in the group that came on from behind the screen so we saw the VT beforehand and we saw how emotional Kevin [choir leader] was in front of the camera."

The vicar added: "As you realise you're singing that song and it could be the last time that you're singing it there's a real sense of togetherness and community within the choir."
