'The Life of Christ' play by the Wintershall Charitable Trust at the Wintershall Estate in Surrey will this year feature a cast of more than 200 actors and animals.
This year's season of the show, which sees audience members taken around the Estate as they follow the performance, runs until Sunday.
Speaking with Premier, director Ashley Herman said: "We explore the play anew each year. Quite often people say: 'Well, I didn't does this last year.' and I say 'Well, we're doing it this year.
"Most of the actors in the play have been doing it for many, many years. So, we are a true church in that sense."
'The Life of Christ' started as a smaller nativity play staged in a barn in 1989.
Ashley Herman, who has been directing for the Wintershall Players since 1991, explained how he uses crowd scenes to capture the bustle of Jesus' time.
He said: "I often think that is what we need to explore; not that Jesus and His ministry were on the periphary, it wasn't, obviously for the people with whom he was associated with, but it was for a lot of others.
"I try this paint this picture, putting Him in context.
"The actual life of Jesus is obviously a strong narrative; it works in a dramatic sense. What we try and do is make sure the narrative is moved along scene-by-scene as you would any other play. We are simply telling a story."
