In the first of Premier's exclusive interviews with the London Mayoral candidates we hear from Zac Goldsmith.

Zac Goldsmith, the Conservative Party candidate for this year's London Mayoral election, has described faith as "overwhelmingly a force for good".

He's been speaking exclusively to Premier as he bids to follow his fellow party member Boris Johnson into City Hall.

The 41-year-old, who grew up in London, is looking to make the move after six years working as MP for Richmond Park.

While Mr Goldsmith is known for his strong environmental values, he's put in place a four point action plan if he were to be elected:

- Start fixing London's housing crisis
- Improve the capacity and reliability of London's transport system
- Improve London's living environment
- Make London's streets safer

Explaining why he is the right person to become Mayor, he said: "The stakes at the mayoral election could not be higher.

"I am asking for your vote because London needs a Mayor with plans that can be delivered and who can work with the Government to fund them; for someone who will put Londoners ahead of party or union interest, and to build a better city that works for all Londoners."

Speaking to Premier about the role of faith in London, he said: "Faith is overwhelmingly a force for good in society.

"The more room we can make for different faiths in London the stronger London will be.

"Faith is something we need to encourage...it provides people with a codebook, a guide on how to live their lives in such a way that the community as a whole benefits. That's overwhelmingly the consequence of faith."

While not professing a faith himself, Mr Goldsmith says he keen to work with those who're motivated by faith.

"There's only so much government can do, there's only so much individuals can do.

"I think an effective administration, mayoral or otherwise, involves working with the communities, enabling them to do more than they could otherwise do."
