Businessman buys 1,000 Bibles to give away

by Eno Adeogun

Wilmington Christian Bookstore owner, Ron Merkle told News Journal: "After I picked myself up off the floor, I showed him several less expensive paperback Bibles, and he said he would prefer something a little nicer that folks might be more inclined to keep for years to come."

The pair settled on the New Kings James Version Bible and the man agreed to purchase 1,000 Bibles instead.

However, Merkle was shocked to discover the man intended for him to give them away for free to customers.

Customers are now able to receive a free Bible without purchasing anything in the bookshop until all 1,000 have been gifted.

Merkle revealed the first person to benefit from the businessman's generosity was the man that delivered the Bibles to his shop.

"He said he had been thinking about going back to church and didn't know where his old one was," Merkle said. "He has one now."
