Chris Brown: I'm off probation 'thank the Lord'

Brown pleaded guilty to attacking his then girlfriend before the Grammy Awards in 2009.

The born again Christian recently spoke to MTV about his faith: "We used to go to church every day. I was one of those kids that had more church clothes than school clothes."

His road to being a pop star started with singing in the church choir, he added.

But his fall from grace came in 2009 when pictures emerged of Rihanna covered in bruises after Brown assaulted her.

After accepting responsibility for the attack he said: "I am seeking the counselling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person."

But after more than six years a judge accepted he had completed all the requirements of his probation and officially closed the case.

He tweeted:

It's not the first time the singer has thanked God. Earlier this year he was released from jail after another attack on a man outside a hotel.

After walking free he said: "Thank you God."
