The UN Conference on the Status of Women is holding two weeks of discussions about global policy and gender equality.
States will investigate new global standards for policy-making and look at the impact this has on the day-to-day life of women.
Jenny Vaughan is the Activism Officer at Catholic charity Progressio, which supports women to empower themselves.
She has been at the Conference and told Premier: "We're very much there to observe what governments are thinking, to observe what different members of civil society from different countries are saying.
"But it's a real privilege for civil society to be able to engage in the way that we are at this conference, because so many UN events happen behind very much closed doors - so Conference on the Status of Women is amazing because it gives a vibrancy to the conference."
