Donald Trump says he has a 'great relationship with God'

In an interview with US broadcaster CNN, the 69 year old said he feels he is doing so well in the polls because of his relationship with God.

Responding to a question of whether he asks God for forgiveness, he said: "I like to be good. I don't like to have to ask for forgiveness.

"And I am good; I don't do a lot of things that are bad, I try and do nothing that's bad."

Talking about the way he lives, he said he leads a very different life to what everybody thinks he does. Responding to the fact that he was on his third marriage, he said: "I blame myself because my business was so powerful for me. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing."

The politician has spoken previously about the Bible being his favourite book and how tries to take communion as often as possible.

While many may be encouraged by him bringing his faith into the public square, some have questioned his attitudes on a number of issues.

Last year he suggested that there should be a ban on Muslims entering the United States.

MPs in the House of Commons will debate on Monday whether his comments amount to hate speech and as a result should be banned from the UK.
