A historic church in northern Iraq has been destroyed by the Islamic State (IS) group, local media reports suggest.
It has been claimed IS detonated a number of explosives on Monday under the Clock Church in the city of Mosul yesterday morning.
The church's clock tower was a gift to the Dominican Fathers who founded the church in 1872 by Empress Eugenie of France, wife of Emperor Napoleon III.
The church is also known as the Latin Church or the Church of the Dominican Fathers.
A number of Christian and Muslim places of worship and other sites of historical interest have been destroyed in Mosul since IS captured the city in June 2014.
Historically, Mosul has been home to Sunni Muslim, Christian, Shabak, Arab, Kurd, Assyrian, Armenian and Turkmen communities.
The city boasted more than 40 churches and monasteries at the time of the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 but some were subsequently damaged in the Iraq War.
