John Sentamu goes Rio Olympics mad on Team GB Super Sunday

by Aaron James

Dr John Sentamu was jubilant after Andy Murray, Justin Rose and Jason Kenny all won gold medals, with gymnast Max Whitlock winning two gold medals - becoming the first ever British Olympic gymnastics champion in the process. He won in both the floor exercise and the pommel horse.

Team GB is now second on the medal table after the US on day nine with 15 gold medals, 16 silver medals and seven bronzes.

Archbishop Sentamu appeared to be up into the late hours watching the Rio Games as he tweeted after every gold medal:

Andy Murray managed to beat Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro to become Olympic tennis champion for the second time, after beating Swiss Roger Federer in London 2012.

Justin Rose won gold in the first Olympic golf championship for more than 100 years, including a hole in one which left the world stunned.

Cyclist Jason Kenny defended his London 2012 title by winning gold in the sprint race in Rio. He took his gold medal tally to five - level with fellow cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins and rower Sir Steve Redgrave, and one behind Sir Chris Hoy, who has six gold medals in cycling.
