The twenty one year old has been promoting his album in an interview with Radio Times. In it he explained how the album title came from finding motivation again in his life, which he also credits to re-focusing on his belief in God.
He said: "It's called Purpose just because I felt like I lost my purpose for a while. But now I've found my purpose. Because I do have a platform and there's so much I can do for the world and use my music to bring that hope and light."
He revealed that he prays every night before he goes to sleep, and when he's troubled or thankful.
He added: "Without God I wouldn't be in this position. He's blessed me with the talent and opportunity. And I feel like there's also a reason I'm here."
After his introduction to super-stardom, the singer became known for his wild antics during his late teens however that reputation has disappeared recently.
Justin Bieber on being a Christian
"I just wanna honestly live like Jesus. Not be Jesus—I could never—I don't want that to come across weird. He created a pretty awesome template of how to love people and how to be gracious and kind. If you believe it, he died for our sins. Sometimes when I don't feel like doing something, but I know it's right, I remember, I'm pretty sure Jesus didn't feel like going to the cross and dying so that we don't have to feel what we should have to feel. "I'm not a bad guy," he said. "People might have misconceptions. And hopefully those walls start to come down and they see the real me."
He continued: "I was in a bad place... It wasn't fake... I just want to get to a place where I can stop apologising. We all go through trial and error. We all go through moments of downfall."
Justin Bieber's received mentoring in recent years from Carl Lentz of Hillsong Church in New York and Judah Smith of City Church in Seattle.
It was reported last year that Bieber had been baptised in the bath tub of basketball star Tyson Chandler.
