Kenya increases crack down on Islamic militants

It is alleged the group was working for al Shabaab, the terrorist organisation that killed 148 people, mostly Christian, at a university in the north eastern town of Garissa last month.

Officers said the men were detained after being stopped at a routine road block in the coastal county of Lamy.

They have all been charged after appearing in court.

Kennedy Chikola, the investigating officer, said in court: "They have been recruiting youths from Hindi and Mokowe to join al Shabaab.

"We also believe they hold crucial leads that will enable us to arrest more terror suspects in Lamy".

He added that officers had found books link to terrorism.

The men denied the charges and were remanded in custody.
