People saying "God does not love me" hurts the most, says Kentucky clerk Kim Davis

by Hannah Tooley

Speaking exclusively to ABC, Kim Davis said: "I have never once spouted a word of hate, I've not been hateful."

But she stressed that licenses being issued by her deputies are not valid in the eyes of God and that the licenses were not valid without her name on them as they "did not have my permission."

She said that: "I'm just a normal person that has been touched by the Grace of God and his mercy, I've not always been a good person. When I didn't live for God I didn't live for him."

She admitted that her constituents elected her but that Godly authority trumps all authority in her eyes.

After being questioned about whether she may have been hypocritical by not issuing licenses, after she has been married four times, she replied that she had been forgiven and "washed clean."

She admitted to having LGBT friends but said that she had also denied them marriage licenses, saying that "They know where I stand, and we don't agree on this issue and we're okay because we respect each other."

Asked why she denied her friends she said: "I can't put my name on a license that doesn't represent what God ordained marriage to be."

In the interview, Davis said she is prepared to go back to jail for her beliefs if necessary.

News agency TMP has reported that Davis risks going back to jail following problems with the licenses that are being issued.

It has been reported that lawyers for two gay couples and two straight couples questioned the validity of the new marriage licenses.

They asked a federal judge to order Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis' office to reissue them.

If Davis refuses, the lawyers have asked the judge to put the office in receivership and have someone else do it.

She stopped issuing all marriage licenses in June after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalised same-sex marriage nationwide.

Upon her return to work it has been reported that she confiscated some licenses and replaced them.

TMP says that lawyers for the American Civil Liberties Union says the validity of the altered licenses is "questionable at best."

Judge Bunning has not yet commented.
