Prayers said for murdered churchgoing couple

Jim and Ann McQuire, from Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, died while on the holiday they booked just weeks ago.

According to the BBC, minister at Abronhill Parish Church, Joyce Keyes said: "I don't think I can make any sense of it at all. My feeling is of numbness.

"They were regular holiday goers since their retirement and were really looking forward to it."

Mr McQuire was a captain in the Boys' Brigade and the couple had told fellow parishioners how excited they were about the holiday the previous Sunday.

Speaking on Premier's News Hour, Rt Revd Dr Angus Morrison, Moderator of the Church of Scotland General Assembly paid tribute to the couple.

He said: "The Church will rally round the family of Jim and Ann McQuire as we do at such times.

"Jim and Ann were much loved and esteemed members of our parish church in Cumbernauld at Abronhill. Jim was captain at the Boys Brigade and they were both very active in the life of the church.

"Our thoughts go to all the family and the congregation there who'll be feeling this acutely."

Thirty-eight people died after a Tunisian student linked to Islamic State carried out the gun attack on a beach near Sousse.

Home Secretary Theresa May has travelled to Tunisia in the wake of the beach massacre to hold talks on addressing the extremist threat.

She has also paid condolences at the scene of the killings.
