Repent or quit threaten bishops over homosexual split

by Hannah Tooley

It has been reported that Justin Welby has invited leaders from the Anglican Church from all over the world to a special summit in Canterbury to discuss issues in the church, according to The Mail on Sunday.

Homosexuality and the church has always been a controversial issue and the Church of England does not allow same sex marriage in church, this topic is expected to cause divides.

Lambeth Palace said: "The Archbishop has invited everyone.

"If people walk out that will be viewed with disappointment rather than anger, and the door will always be open."

The Mail on Sunday has reported that a group of around eight conservative archbishops from countries in Africa and Asia are preparing to quit the meeting on the first morning, unless the liberal Americans change their views or leave.

It is thought that these leaders represent some of the biggest of the 38 individual churches invited.

The paper has reported that some religious leaders were unhappy that the Archbishop of Canterbury, the nominal head of the Communion, the collection of global churches, did not tell off more liberal leaders.

These divisions caused last year's conference to be postponed.
