Reports of at least 30 Christians murdered in Nigeria

by Aaron James

According to World Watch Monitor, nomadic herders attacked the village of Kodumun in the predominantly Christian area of Demsa in Adamawa State (above), north-eastern Nigeria, on Tuesday.

World Watch Monitor has said called the attack a "clear agenda to wipe out" Christians which is being supported by foreign fighters and weapons.

It has also quoted local media sources, which say that police chose not to deploy security forces to protect the Christians in fear of being seen to take one side over another.

Speaking to Premier, Illia Djadi from the Monitor, said: "This is jihad. This is a clear agenda to wipe out, or to target, Christian communities in that area.

"For church leaders in that area this is above their common, classic clashes that they used to have between Fulani herdsmen and farmers. Most of the time the attackers are mainly foreigners - they are not local Fulani men.

"They are using very sophisticated weapons - AK-47s and others...they are well organised, there is a clear intent to kill."

"They feel abandoned. They say 'the government has failed us'.

"There is no protection for these predominantly Christian communities."

The Anglican Church of Nigeria has called the government to do everything in its power to disarm the Fulani herdsmen.
