Royal correspondent: Pray for Princess Charlotte on her 1st birthday

by Hannah Tooley

The youngest child of Prince William and Kate has only been seen in public twice since she was born - outside the hospital when just a few hours old on May 2nd 2015, and at her christening in July aged nine weeks.

She was named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana in tribute to her grandmother Diana, Princess of Wales and her great-grandmother the Queen.

In July, the Queen and the Middletons were among the select number of guests at Charlotte's christening at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham.

She also made an appearance in the Cambridges' official Christmas card - a picture of William and Kate crouching down with their children in the gardens of Kensington Palace.

Shirley Tart is the Royal Correspondent for the Shropshire Star and a warden at her local church.

She told Premier people can pray for the princess: "If people that they feel it's something they'd like to do, then that's a nice thing to do isn't it?

"Or at least include it in weekend prayers generally.

The Queen sits as the head of the Church of England and has often spoken about her faith and God.

She told Premier that faith plays a role in the lives of the royal family and she expects the same to apply to Princess Charlotte of Cambridge: "I don't think you can really define somebody else's faith as they grow can you?

"I'm sure she'll be brought up in the same way really as the others, and the traditions that have gone before, and I'm sure we all hope and pray that they're helped."

"On the back on the Queen's 90th, it's lovely isn't it? You've got the Matriarch who's 90 and then you've got the tiny baby in the family days later celebrating her first birthday, which is a bit special that one I think."

Annie Leibovitz, one of America's most famous photographers, captured the princess - who was holding a plastic toy horse and had a pink bow clip in her hair - sitting on the lap of her great-grandmother.

The monarch was surrounded by her other great-grandchildren and two youngest grandchildren.
