Israel Tour

Premier Christian Radio invites you to journey across Israel "In the Footsteps of Jesus" Holy Land Tour 2009. As a Christian there is something almost indescribably special about setting foot in the land where so many of the events and history central to our faith took place.

Bring your friends and meet new friends from among the family of Premier listeners on this special tour. Join no fewer than three of Premier's presenters – John Pantry, Pam Rhodes and Michael Fanstone and come worship, pray and fellowship with us this year in the Holy Land!

Over the centuries pilgrims flocked to the Holy Land in their hundreds of thousands on a journey of discovery and spiritual fulfilment. We are inviting you to join us in this tour of discovery in the Footsteps of Jesus where he was born, lived as a child and where he began his ministry. Starting from his native Nazareth to his favourite haunts on the north-western shore of the Sea of Galilee, we will visit Capharnaum where he made his home with Simon Peter, the Mount of Beatitudes where he delivered the Sermon on the Mount and Tabgha where he fed the 5,000 with five loaves and two fish; the Bible will unfold before you and will come to life day after day. We will travel south through the Jordan Valley and the Judean Desert to Bethlehem where he was born and Jerusalem where he died on the cross for the salvation ofmankind and where He was resurrected.

As a Christian, there is something almost indescribably special about setting foot in the land where so many of the events and history central to one’s faith took place.

And the desire of Christians to visit the Holy Land at least once in their lifetime has remained undiminished over the centuries and is still true of Christians today.

In 2008 we broadcast our Inspirational Breakfast show live from Jerusalem and Galilee, and received an overwhelming response from our listeners. Now we’re giving our listeners an opportunity to join us on this Holy Land tour.

Listen again to John and Cindy live from the Holy Land on Inspirational Breakfast. They speak to Dr Gaby Barkay and the Archdeacon of London, Peter Delaney, about the archaeology of Israel.

Israel: A Land of Contrasts

Israel is an extraordinary land of contrasts for such a small country. It is roughly the same size as Wales in area and home to a population of 7.4 million. 80% of the inhabitants are Jewish with 20% Arab. Judaism is the majority religion, followed by Islam with significant Christian and Druze minorities. The country can be divided into distinct geographical areas from the Coastal Plain bordering the Mediterranean Sea in the west to the Jordan Rift Valley running down the east and marking the border with the country of Jordan.

The spectacular and arid Negev and Judean deserts dominate the central and southern regions stretching down to the port city of Eilat on the Red Sea. The lush and fertile plains and hills of the Galilee and Golan Heights make up the north of the country including the most vital of all geographical features, the Sea of Galilee and the source of virtually all the country's fresh water supply.

In terms of climate, Israel is a subtropical region with hot summers and cold semi-wet or wet winters. The country's location sandwiched between sea and desert and topographical extremes from mountains down to the lowest place on the surface of the earth, the Dead Sea, create micro-climates in the various regions meaning that a winter trip to the country would allow you to go skiing on the slopes of Mount Hermon in the north in the morning and then take a short flight to tan in 30 degree temperatures on the Red Sea coast in the south. The hottest months are July and August but September-November and April-June are considered the best months to visit where temperatures are much more comfortable.
