Sport and Spirituality

Sport and spirituality: do the two mix? You’ll most likely find the Sunday stands packed out rather than the pews. But with sport such a massive part of many of our lives, we take a look at how faith can impact the sporting world.

Pitch to pulpit

People go in to full-time ministry from all walks of life, but moving from the field of football's probably one you don't hear of too often. But that's the case for footballer Stuart Elliott. He racked up thirty-eight caps for Northern Ireland and played for a number of clubs including Hull and Doncaster.

Now, however, he's packed it up to join the leadership team at Living Hope Church in Hull. Premier's Marcus Jones caught up with him and to ask how he first found faith.

Keeping the Sabbath

Well the World Cup final comes to a close on Sunday. And if you've been watching some of the games over the past few weeks you may have spotted Dan Walker. He's been presenting some of the BBC coverage and touring South Africa on a bus speaking to local people and finding out about local projects.

But while all the other staff out there have been working seven days a week - Dan has an agreement that he doesn't work Sundays, because he wants to keep the day holy.

Premier's Marcus Jones caught with him before he left for South Africa.
