Open Doors Six Month Wrap Up
Open Doors is Premier's Charity of the Year, and together we've been running appeals and campaigns to help spread the Gospel. So what exactly have we achieved?
Eddie Lyle, the CEO of Open Doors talks about the year so far
On-Air Appeal One - Bibles for Iraq
During March of this year we raised the issue of the lack of bibles for believers in Iraq. Using real stories of persecuted Iraqis we were able to raise over £45,000. This paid for more than 9,000 bibles.
The Great Big Tea Party
This initiative involved thousands of Christians around the UK putting the kettle on to raise money for and awareness of the 200 million persecuted Christians around the globe. Some of the tea parties held on this 10 June event involved over 300 people and a brass band, morris dancers as well as plenty of smaller events with traditional cakes and sandwiches.
The Release of the Indonesian Women
Friday 8 June will always be remembered by Open Doors supporters as the day the three Christian women were released early from jail. They were imprisoned simply for teaching a Sunday school.
On-Air Appeal Two - Broadcasting in Afghanistan
Our second appeal of the year asked listeners to help fund radio broadcasts into Afghanistan. Funding a radio station in somewhere like the United Kingdom is one thing, but trying to do this in a war-torn country where 98% of the population is Muslim is nigh on impossible. Premier listeners were able to raise over £15,000, funding nearly 250 days of broadcasts into the country.
On-Air Appeal Three - Bibles for Children
For centuries, traders have been walking the ancient routes of the Silk Road. Now Open Doors is bringing a new resource to the people of the path. In November 2007, Open Doors appealed for donations to print and distribute 5,000 bibles to children along the Silk Road. Premier's faithful rose to the challenge, donating over £32,000 and giving almost 7,000 children the gift of their first Bible at Christmas.
