Making a Difference with World Vision

World Vision works to get along side some of the poorest communities in the world. They seek to make an impact on poverty and its causes, especially as they affect children. It’s hard to see how to begin to tackle the issue, but through World Vision lives and communities are being equipped, supported and changed.

World Vision works in over 90 countries worldwide. One of the areas where they are making a difference is Cambodia where Heng Oeuy lives and where you can help change hardship to hope.

Heng Oeuy’s Story

Sitting in the seat of a loom under the house, a young girl is busy weaving silk. Both her hands and legs are working like a machine to create the beautiful cloth.

“After class, I help my mother weave silk. My mother teaches me how to weave. I am pleased to do it as I can get some money for my mother," says 12-year-old Heng Oeuy hoarsely.

Heng Oeuy lives with her mother, an old grandmother, and her youngest sister and the beautiful cloth she has learnt to weave is really important for the family to survive.

The presence of World Vision Cambodia also means that Heng Oeuy now has a sponsor and so for her and the whole community the future is more hopeful.

Through the letters and cards Heng Oeuy Oeuy receives from her sponsor she is able to learn English, learn about the wider world and get to know her sponsor a little bit better. And for Heng’s sponsor it is the opportunity to really connect & care for a child in another part of the world and to see and learn about the differences that sponsorship is making.
