Personal Development

The journey to being a great leader

Leadership writer, Martha Lawley, says the Church must invest in the ‘development of effective, Godly leaders’ and that good leadership ‘doesn't just happen.’

It's a ‘lifelong process’, a journey that is well worth the time, money and energy. Having the attitude that there is always room for improvement is the difference between a great leader and just a manager.

One of the ways leaders can further their journey is to ensure they use their authority, seek out others, invest time in them to help take the vision forward.

Authors Bob Biner and Ray Pritchard say “The wise leader brings together a group of followers who will give back to him or her. Mark says that Jesus appointed the twelve – that they might be with Him. The cliché about being lonely at the top represents a leadership failure; the very best leaders are not lonely because they have developed an intimacy with a close group of followers.”

“When you have no helpers, see your helpers in God. When you have many helpers, see God in all your helpers. When you have nothing but God, see all in God. When you have everything, see God in everything. Under all conditions, stay thy heart only on the Lord.” — Charles Spurgeon
