G8 countries want to halve emissions by 2050

A statement from G8 leaders on plans to fight climate change are being welcomed in Europe.

The group, which is meeting in Japan, says it aims to adopt a goal of at least halving greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

But US President, George Bush, will not agree to any binding targets unless China and India cut their emissions.
