Prime minister promises to reduce knife crime

Gordon Brown's promising to do whatever it takes to bring knife crime down.

That could mean more metal detector checks on the streets, and tougher laws.

But he's facing accusations ministers are hiding the true extent of the problem.

Most police officers believe stabbings have gone up - despite official figures showing no increase.
