2020 Year of Pilgrimage

2020 sees the opening of a host of new pilgrim routes leading to cathedrals, highlighting the importance of spiritual, mental and physical well-being.

The new walking routes have been inspired by ancient pilgrimage paths that lead to every English cathedral.

2020 also brings together a remarkable number of individual cathedral anniversaries, from the 850th anniversary of Becket at Canterbury to the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Coventry.

Premier’s Northern Correspondent Ian Britton has been to Ripon Cathedral to meet the Very Rev John Dobson, Dean of Ripon.

Dean John told Premier “one of the things that we've been working on in Ripon is the opportunity to take a pilgrimage within the building itself.”

He explained they were open to everybody, very accessible and on a number of different themes.
