The Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu is continuing to share his faith journey with all those he meets as part of his mission weekends across the Diocese of York and further afield in Cumbria and Newcastle.
In 2018, the Archbishop will complete a tour of his Diocese with mission weekends planned in the Harthill Deanery from 2-4 March, North Holderness from 23-25 March, Mowbray from 13-15 April, Guisborough from 27-29 April, Beverley from 11-13 May and finally York from 18-20 May.
The Archbishop began the weekend missions in the Diocese of York last January, following on from his Pilgrimage of Prayer, Witness and Blessing, where he has shared his faith testimony and the love of Jesus Christ in all kinds of settings.
Alongside these mission weekends in his Diocese, the Archbishop is joining other bishops and senior church leaders across the Northern Province for missions in the county of Cumbria in March and in the Diocese of Newcastle in September. Northern Bishops Missions have taken place in Sheffield in 2015, Blackburn in 2016 and Durham in 2017 and each have encouraged people to learn more about the Christian faith.
‘Moving Mountains’ is the name given for the mission in Cumbria which will take place from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 March 2018. Church leaders from the Methodist Church, United Reformed Church and the Salvation Army will join with the Anglican bishops to lead 34 local groups who will participate in over 200 events across the county organised and hosted by different denominations.
The Archbishop said, “The heart of the Christian faith is about having a personal encounter with Jesus – an encounter which transforms and brings hope and love. I have been so encouraged as I have shared in the different missions over the past few years, to see people becoming more confident in sharing the faith they have in Jesus Christ. And we have the greatest news to share – that we are loved and accepted by our Creator God, and that he wants us to know him through his Son Jesus Christ – fantastic!”
