Consett Pub Chaplain A Big Hit

On a Monday morning, if you pop into Wetherspoons in Consett, County Durham, you'll soon come across their chaplain Melanie Nixon.

She believes God has called her to serve as a chaplain in this most unusual of settings.

Melanie told Premier during her time as a chaplain she has discovered “there are just so many people who just want someone to talk too.”

As well as being a Chaplain she is also studying for a Certificate in Theology, Ministry and Mission at Cranmer Hall, Durham.

Premier’s Northern Correspondent Ian Britton went along to meet Melanie over a coffee and discovered the regulars clearly love their chaplain.
