Lord Guthrie speaks to Durham University on the ethics of war

Field Marshal The Lord Guthrie of Craigiebank was in Durham last night speaking to Durham University United Nations Society on the ethics of war.

Lord Guthrie's military career saw service with the Welsh Guards and the SAS; he was closely involved in military operations in Northern Ireland and provided advice to the British Government during the Bosnian War and the Kosovo War.

He also served as Chief of the General Staff, the professional head of the British Army, and was Chief of Defence Staff.

Ian Britton - from Premier's Newcastle office - spoke to Lord Guthrie after the event and the conversation started with Lord Guthrie explaining the idea that as Christians we might be able to contemplate a just war goes back many centuries.
