Pope Francis has conferred a papal knighthood on Mr Clive Leach, CBE.

According to the Diocese of Leeds, the pope made Mr Leach a member of the Pontifical Equestrian Order of St Gregory the Great, which is one of the five Pontifical Orders of Knighthood in the Catholic Church.

The knighthood is in recognition of the faithful and devoted service Mr Leach has given to supporting the mission of the Catholic Church through publications and media communication.

Since 1996, Mr Leach has been Chairman of the Universe Media Group, publishers of The Universe, The Catholic Times, and The Official Catholic Directory of England and Wales.
